Kainos Wellness Massage, a single-person business, lacked an online presence, making it difficult for potential clients to find essential information such as services, pricing, and booking options. Without a professional website, the business risked appearing less credible and missing opportunities to attract new clients.
Underwhelming Online Presence Against Competition
PROBLEM
Research
I designed a user-friendly website that consolidates all necessary information in an accessible and visually appealing format. The site enhances professionalism through a calming blue and green color scheme, clear navigation, and integrated online booking. This ensures potential clients can easily learn about services, book appointments, and trust Kainos Wellness Massage as a reputable business.
Building an Online Presence
SOLUTION
Designing for Responsiveness
KEY LEARNINGS
One of the most valuable lessons from this project was the importance of creating a fully responsive website that adapts seamlessly to different devices and screen sizes. Given that 92% of users accessed Kainos Wellness Massage via mobile, I had to ensure the layout remained intuitive, visually appealing, and functional across all screen types. This experience reinforced my understanding of mobile-first design, emphasizing simplicity, clarity, and ease of navigation.
This project marked my first real-world website design outside of school assignments, making it a significant milestone in my portfolio. Unlike academic projects with predefined guidelines, I had to approach this with a client-focused mindset, ensuring the design met both business needs and user expectations. Additionally, I refined my research skills, diving deeper into user behavior, online search patterns, and accessibility considerations. The process challenged me to think critically about how design impacts usability and professionalism in a real business setting.

Understanding The Customer’s Journey
Through research, I identified two primary ways customers found Kainos Wellness Massage. Many relaxation-focused clients discovered the business spontaneously through Google searches, often making last-minute booking decisions. Meanwhile, post-operative clients were primarily referred by previous customers, seeking specialized massage packages.
A crucial insight from this research was that the majority of users accessed the business through mobile devices. Data showed that:
68% of customers found Kainos through Google search on mobile
24% discovered it via Google Maps on mobile
5% used Google search on desktop
3% found it through Google Maps on desktop
These findings emphasized the importance of a mobile-first approach in designing the website. The layout needed to be simple yet informative, allowing users to quickly find essential details like services, pricing, and booking options without unnecessary complexity. Prioritizing clarity and ease of use ensured that Kainos Wellness Massage not only maintained its accessibility but also enhanced its credibility as a professional and trustworthy business.
Seamless Online Booking Integration
One of the key priorities in designing the Kainos Wellness Massage website was ensuring a smooth and accessible booking process. To enhance user convenience, I integrated a prominent booking button at both the top navigation barand the bottom of each page. This eliminates the need for users to search for the booking option, allowing them to schedule an appointment quickly and effortlessly.
Additionally, the services section provides detailed descriptions of each offering, helping customers make informed decisions. However, recognizing that some users may already know what they want, the strategically placed booking buttons ensure they can take action immediately without scrolling through unnecessary content. This approach streamlines the user journey, reducing friction and making the experience as intuitive as possible.
One area I’d like to improve is language accessibility. The business owner is a native Spanish speaker, and many of Kainos’ clients primarily speak Spanish. Currently, the website is only in English, which may create a barrier for Spanish-speaking customers. In the future, I aim to implement a seamless bilingual interface that allows users to switch effortlessly between Spanish and English, ensuring inclusivity and a better user experience for all clients. This would further elevate Kainos Wellness Massage’s professionalism and accessibility, making it even more welcoming to a diverse clientele.
